Almost everyone coming from out of town for a concert books somewhere in central Madrid. It makes sense: everything is close, there is atmosphere, and you can walk out of the hotel to anywhere.
For a concert at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano —formerly the Wanda— that logic flips. Sleeping in the centre is exactly what forces you into the thing you do not want to do: joining line 7 with everyone else, at the worst moment of the night.
Why the centre is a bad idea that night
The stadium sits on the eastern edge of the city and depends on a single metro line. If you sleep around Sol, Gran Vía or Atocha, your journey back means queuing at the stadium, boarding an overloaded line 7 and crossing the whole of Madrid. With luck, an hour and a bit from the moment you leave the venue.
If you sleep nearby, that same journey back is fifteen minutes.
The real cost
The price difference between a hotel in the centre and one in the eastern area is usually small. The difference in how your night ends is not.
On line 7 itself
The most comfortable option: staying at one of line 7’s stops towards the centre —Las Musas, San Blas, Simancas, García Noblejas— or nearby.
The advantage is twofold. Getting there, you arrive in two or three stops. Getting back, you can walk to the next station and board the metro without the stadium queue, or simply walk home if you are staying close enough.
It is a residential area: do not expect nightlife or a big dining scene, but you will find more reasonable prices than in the centre and a quiet place to sleep.
Airport area (Barajas and around)
The other solid option. It is well connected, has plenty of hotel options —including budget chains, since they live off business travellers— and sits a reasonable distance from the stadium.
It is the obvious choice if you are flying out the next day: it saves you crossing Madrid with your suitcase first thing in the morning.
If you are flying in and leaving the next day
Airport to sleep, metro for the concert. It is the combination with the least friction of all.
If you are flying in
From the airport to the hotel, without the hassle
If you land on the day, the transfer is the first thing to decide. Barajas has a metro and an airport bus, and for one person with one suitcase they are usually the cheapest. A private transfer or pre-booked taxi from Barajas only pays off if you are several, arriving late or carrying a lot: it is booked in advance and the price depends on time, destination and group size, so check your date before deciding.

When to book
Stadium concerts move tens of thousands of people, and a good share of them come from out of town. When a big date is announced, accommodation in the area gets more expensive within days.
The strategy that works is booking early with free cancellation and checking back later. If the price drops, you cancel and rebook; if it rises, you are already covered.

In short, if you read one thing
Prioritise line 7 or the airport over the centre. At this particular venue, sleeping nearby is not a luxury: it is what turns a one-hour journey back into a fifteen-minute one.
